Police say it happened on Dec. 27, 2025.<\/p>\n<h2>What the police say happened<\/h2>\n<p>The store manager told police he saw Byre at the register with a wet bag. He said she asked about an exchange.<\/p>\n<p>He also asked if she had a receipt. He said she replied that it was at home.<\/p>\n<p>Police reviewed surveillance video at the store. The video showed a woman entering with an empty cart.<\/p>\n<p>Police said loose store bags were in the cart. Police said she went to the toy aisle and the baby section.<\/p>\n<p>She later went to the counter to pay, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The manager provided a receipt for scanned items. They said they recognized her from a past case in Grand Forks, North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Officers later spoke with Byre at her home, police said. Byre told police she believed she paid for everything.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed to the receipt and asked why the bottles were missing. She also said she bought a toy.<\/p>\n<p>Byre denied trying to return items, police said. She said she only asked about larger bottles.<\/p>\n<p>She said she uses her own bags to recycle. She said she assumed the clerk scanned each item.<\/p>\n<p>Byre asked if she could go back and pay, police said.<\/p>\n<h2>What happens next<\/h2>\n<p>Police said they served Byre with a trespass notice and a theft citation. The citation lists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.52\">Minnesota Statute 609.52<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Byre refused to sign the trespass form.
