Kittson County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Halma woman is facing three felony counts in Kittson County District Court.<\/p>\n

Court records say the case involves an altered refund check from a Moorhead law firm.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors charged Jessica Marie Klegstad<\/strong>, 45, of Halma.<\/p>\n

The complaint lists Prosecutor File No. 25000177 and Court File No. 35-CR-25-192.<\/p>\n

What authorities allege<\/h2>\n

A criminal complaint says a law office manager reported the issue on December 17, 2025.<\/p>\n

The manager, Gwendolyn Hoberg, works for Ringstrom DeKrey<\/a> in Moorhead.<\/p>\n

She said the firm once represented Klegstad but later withdrew.<\/p>\n

She told investigators that Klegstad\u2019s husband paid the retainer from his own account.<\/p>\n

The firm said that the account was not joint.<\/p>\n

The firm said it owed Kerry Klegstad $2,930 for unused fees.<\/p>\n

The firm wrote a $2,930 check to Kerry Klegstad from an American Federal Bank account.<\/p>\n

The firm mailed the check by certified mail, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Investigators say the check was changed to $29,030.<\/p>\n

They say it was deposited into Kerry Klegstad\u2019s account at Prime Security Bank in Karlstad.<\/p>\n

Bank records and interview<\/h2>\n

Investigators obtained bank records using an administrative subpoena, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Those records show a deposit date of December 12, 2025.<\/p>\n

Investigators later spoke with Kerry Klegstad at his farm, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

He said he signed for a letter but did not open it.<\/p>\n

He said he did not deposit the check.<\/p>\n

He also said the endorsement signature was not his.<\/p>\n

He said he did not allow anyone to sign his name.<\/p>\n

Arrest and statement<\/h2>\n

After the interview, investigators went to the couple\u2019s residence, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

They arrested Jessica Klegstad and took her to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

She received a Miranda warning, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

She first denied altering the check, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Investigators say she then admitted to changing the amount at home.<\/p>\n

They say she admitted to signing Kerry Klegstad\u2019s name without permission.<\/p>\n
