Duluth, Minnesota<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Duluth police officer was stabbed in the leg early Saturday, police said.<\/p>\n

What happened<\/h2>\n

Police said the call came in at about 12:35 a.m. near 1st Avenue West and First Street.<\/p>\n

Dispatchers were told an intoxicated man was causing a disturbance.<\/p>\n

Police said the man struck the side of a Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service<\/a> vehicle.<\/p>\n

Police said he also threatened the paramedics inside the ambulance.<\/p>\n

Officers arrived and looked for the man in the area.<\/p>\n

Police said they found him a block away at 1st Avenue West and Second Street.<\/p>\n

An officer tried to detain the man, police said.<\/p>\n

Police said the man resisted and stabbed the officer in the leg.<\/p>\n

Arrest and jail booking<\/h2>\n

Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Kevin Daniel Couillard of Duluth.<\/p>\n

Officers took Couillard into custody at the scene, police said.<\/p>\n

He was later booked into the St. Louis County Jail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Officer injury<\/h2>\n

Police said the officer\u2019s injury was not life-threatening.<\/p>\n

The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.<\/p>\n

Police said the officer was treated and released.<\/p>\n

Possible charges<\/h2>\n

Police listed several preliminary charges against Couillard.<\/p>\n

They include first-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and fleeing on foot.<\/p>\n

Police also listed obstructing the legal process and public nuisance.<\/p>\n

Preliminary charges can change after a prosecutor reviews the case.<\/p>\n

Minnesota law covers first-degree assault in Statute 609.221<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Court filings will show the final counts and any bail conditions.<\/p>\n

What happens next<\/h2>\n

Duluth police said the case remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

Police did not release details about the weapon.<\/p>\n
