Crookston, Polk County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Crookston man faces felony DWI charges after a traffic stop.<\/p>\n

What the police say happened<\/h2>\n

Court papers say an officer saw a Ford Fusion at about 7:08 p.m. on February 10, 2026.<\/p>\n

The officer said the plate was hard to read due to dirt.<\/p>\n

The officer also said the window tint looked too dark.<\/p>\n

The officer stopped the car on Summit Avenue in Crookston.<\/p>\n

The driver was identified as Nicholas Andrew Follette<\/strong>, 37, of Crookston.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Follette showed signs of impairment.<\/p>\n

It cites slurred speech, slow movement, and shaking.<\/p>\n

Police also noted heavy sweating in cold weather.<\/p>\n

Investigators learned Follette was on probation.<\/p>\n

They also learned he had prior DWI convictions.<\/p>\n

Police say Follette refused field sobriety tests.<\/p>\n

Police say he admitted he had marijuana in the car.<\/p>\n

A search later found a small baggie on Follette, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

The substance tested positive for methamphetamine in a field test.<\/p>\n

Police also reported a glass pipe in the driver\u2019s door.<\/p>\n

Charges filed<\/h2>\n

Follette is charged with two counts of felony first-degree driving while impaired.<\/p>\n

He also faces a gross misdemeanor fifth-degree controlled substance charge.<\/p>\n

He is also charged with gross misdemeanor firearm or ammunition possession.<\/p>\n

That count alleges use of a controlled substance.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say Follette has three qualifying impaired driving convictions within ten years.<\/p>\n

Court action<\/h2>\n

Bail was set at $100,000, with no conditions, according to the filing.<\/p>\n

Judge Jeremy Clinefelter set that bail amount, the filing says.<\/p>\n

Follette later appeared in Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n

Judge Corey A. Harbott signed a detention order, court records say.<\/p>\n

The order keeps Follette in jail as the case moves ahead.<\/p>\n
