Thief River Falls, Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A rural Thief River Falls woman waived a pretrial omnibus hearing Tuesday, Feb. 17.<\/p>\n

Edwina Marie Stoutenburgh<\/strong>, 35, pleaded not guilty to two felony charges.<\/p>\n

Charges filed<\/h2>\n

Stoutenburgh is charged with attempted second-degree murder without intent.<\/p>\n

That charge is tied to Minn. Stat. \u00a7 609.19<\/a> and the attempt law.<\/p>\n

The children appeared safe, according to the probable cause statement.<\/p>\n

Stoutenburgh was outside the home when deputies arrived, the filing says.<\/p>\n

She was detained and placed in handcuffs.<\/p>\n

She allegedly told deputies not to remove the handcuffs.<\/p>\n

The statement says she talked about \u201cthey\u201d making her act.<\/p>\n

Deputies later wrote she meant demons.<\/p>\n

The statement says she was taken to an emergency room.<\/p>\n

There, she allegedly described demons taking over that morning.<\/p>\n

She allegedly said voices made her eat dog feces.<\/p>\n

She also described eating a duck eyeball, the statement says.<\/p>\n

The filing says the family had put down a sick duck the day before.<\/p>\n

Deputies later reported a severed duck head on a cutting board.<\/p>\n

Stoutenburgh allegedly told deputies she did not want to hurt her children.<\/p>\n

She allegedly said voices pushed her to grab a knife.<\/p>\n

She allegedly said she planned to kill the children first.<\/p>\n

She allegedly said she planned to kill her husband next.<\/p>\n

She allegedly said she planned to kill herself last.<\/p>\n

The statement says the child was asleep during the first attempt.<\/p>\n

Stoutenburgh allegedly said the knife was too dull.<\/p>\n

She allegedly said the voices told her to sharpen it.<\/p>\n

Court papers say the children became scared.<\/p>\n

She allegedly told them she would kill them too.<\/p>\n

She allegedly told them they had to leave.<\/p>\n

Home search and next steps<\/h2>\n

The filing says her husband was at work during the incident.<\/p>\n

He reportedly got a frantic call from his wife.<\/p>\n

He then called law enforcement, the statement says.<\/p>\n

After he arrived, he gave permission for a home search.<\/p>\n

Deputies reported a bloodied spoon in the kitchen area.<\/p>\n

They also reported a chef\u2019s knife with apparent blood.<\/p>\n

The case paused for a mental health evaluation.<\/p>\n

An evaluation order was filed in December, court records show.<\/p>\n

A report was filed Feb. 10, but it is not public.<\/p>\n

Stoutenburgh remains in custody at the Pennington County Jail.<\/p>\n

Her bond is $30,000 cash or $250,000 surety.<\/p>\n

Her next hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 6.<\/p>\n

Charges are allegations in a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

Stoutenburgh is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
