Port Hope Township<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A fatal structure fire north of Bemidji destroyed a home Monday night.<\/p>\n

The Bemidji Fire Department got the call around 8:47 p.m.
\nFire crews went to the 12000 block of Peterson Lake Road NE.
\nThe area is about 15 miles north of Bemidji.<\/p>\n

What crews found<\/h2>\n

Firefighters arrived to heavy flames and thick smoke.
\nThe home was fully involved when crews reached the scene.
\nThe building was also starting to collapse.
\nFirefighters reported the structure had fallen toward the basement.<\/p>\n

Crews focused on putting out the main fire fast.
\nThey also worked to limit damage around the site.
\nThe department said the home was a total loss.<\/p>\n

One person was found dead<\/h2>\n

After the fire was under control, crews searched the home.
\nThey found one deceased person inside.
\nOfficials have not released the victim\u2019s identity.
\nThe person\u2019s name may come after the family notice.<\/p>\n

The department did not report other injuries.
\nNo cause has been released at this time.<\/p>\n

A long fight to knock down the fire<\/h2>\n

A total of 28 firefighters responded, the department said.
\nCrews worked for about six hours on the scene.
\nThey spent hours on hot spots and deep smoke.
\nThey also checked for fire spread after the collapse.<\/p>\n

\nThat can slow down the final cleanup.<\/p>\n
