Four Felony Charges Filed In Douglas County<\/h2>\n

Court records identify the suspect as Dylan Charles-Edward Wallace<\/strong>, 28, of Superior.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors in Douglas County District Court filed four felony counts.<\/p>\n

The charges include attempted first-degree intentional homicide.<\/p>\n

Wallace is also charged with discharging a firearm in a school zone.<\/p>\n

Other counts include criminal damage to property and domestic abuse, strangulation, and suffocation.<\/p>\n

Night Out Ends In Crash And Domestic Assault Report<\/h2>\n

According to the criminal complaint, Wallace had been out drinking with his girlfriend.<\/p>\n

They were driving near Superior Middle School when he crashed his car into a snowbank.<\/p>\n

The woman later told officers Wallace choked her twice after the crash.<\/p>\n

She ran to a nearby nursing home for help.<\/p>\n

Investigators later noted red marks on her neck, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Guns Retrieved Before Traffic Stop<\/h2>\n

Wallace told investigators he ran home after the crash.<\/p>\n

He said he took an AK-47, a handgun, and a rifle from the residence.<\/p>\n

He then drove a van back toward his stuck car near the school.<\/p>\n

He said he planned to pull the car out with the van.<\/p>\n

Wallace told an agent with the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation he did not plan to shoot at first.<\/p>\n

Traffic Stop On Tower Avenue Turns Violent<\/h2>\n

The complaint says a Superior officer stopped Wallace\u2019s van just after 2:30 a.m.<\/p>\n

The stop happened at Tower Avenue and North 37th Street.<\/p>\n

Wallace later said he believed he was going to jail.<\/p>\n

He told investigators, \u201cI got out and started shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n

He admitted firing the AK-47 in the direction of the officer.<\/p>\n

He said he was \u201cjust trying to die\u201d and did not aim.<\/p>\n

The officer\u2019s body camera video shows her getting out of her squad car.<\/p>\n

She yells, \u201cShots fired,\u201d as sparks from bullets hit the ground.<\/p>\n

She is heard saying \u201cow\u201d as she retreats and returns fire.<\/p>\n

Another officer arrives, and another shot is heard.<\/p>\n

More shots follow about 40 seconds later, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Officer Wounded; Rifle Fire Continues<\/h2>\n

Wallace admitted to shooting until the AK-47 stopped firing.<\/p>\n

He said the magazine may have emptied or the rifle jammed.<\/p>\n

Investigators later found two different types of rifle casings at the scene.<\/p>\n

Wallace agreed he must have used both the AK-47 and another rifle.<\/p>\n

The officer was hit twice.<\/p>\n

One bullet struck her right arm.<\/p>\n

Another struck her radio and lodged in her ballistic vest.<\/p>\n

She was hospitalized and later released.<\/p>\n

Van Rammed Into Superior Middle School<\/h2>\n

The video then shows Wallace driving to Superior Middle School.<\/p>\n

The complaint says he rammed his van into the front doors.<\/p>\n

Surveillance video shows him entering the school with a handgun and a rifle.<\/p>\n

He walked down a hallway and forced his way into a classroom.<\/p>\n

Wallace stayed inside the building for several hours.<\/p>\n

He later told investigators he shot out a window and the lights while hiding.<\/p>\n

Surrender, Injury, And Court Appearance<\/h2>\n

Wallace surrendered to officers without incident around 7 a.m.<\/p>\n

He asked, \u201cIs the cop I shot at OK?\u201d according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

He had a gunshot wound to his stomach.<\/p>\n

Doctors treated a through-and-through wound that missed vital organs.<\/p>\n

Wallace made his first court appearance on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The court set cash bail at $2 million.<\/p>\n

The commissioner cited the serious nature of the crimes and the impact on public safety.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors noted prior convictions for reckless driving, carrying a pistol without a permit, and domestic assault.<\/p>\n

Wallace was ordered to avoid contact with the shot officer and the domestic assault victim.<\/p>\n

He must also stay away from their homes and all Superior School District property.<\/p>\n

If released, he is barred from guns, alcohol, and driving.<\/p>\n
