Moorhead<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) A former City of Moorhead truck driver has been charged after a crash that killed a 9-year-old boy near an elementary school.<\/p>\n

Victor Port, 64, of West Fargo, is charged with two misdemeanors.<\/p>\n

The charges include failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.<\/p>\n

He is also charged with not having the proper license to drive the truck.<\/p>\n

The crash happened near Reinertsen Elementary<\/h2>\n

Police say the crash happened July 31, 2025, outside S.G. Reinertsen Elementary.<\/p>\n

Adam Amin, 9, was riding his bicycle through a marked crosswalk.<\/p>\n

A City of Moorhead water truck struck him as he crossed, police said.<\/p>\n

Amin would have started fourth grade at the school that fall.<\/p>\n

What Port told investigators<\/h2>\n

Port told police he stopped at the crosswalk.<\/p>\n

He said he began a left turn and then heard a bang.<\/p>\n

Port said he never saw the boy in the crosswalk.<\/p>\n

Mother was nearby, police say<\/h2>\n

Investigators said Amin\u2019s mother was walking behind him.<\/p>\n

Police said Amin reached the crosswalk as the truck arrived.<\/p>\n

They said Amin entered the crosswalk and had the right of way.<\/p>\n

Key findings from the investigation<\/h2>\n

Investigators said Port was not using a cellphone during the crash.<\/p>\n

They also found no signs of alcohol or drug impairment.<\/p>\n

Police said the truck stopped partially inside the crosswalk.<\/p>\n

They believe that the position may have blocked Port\u2019s view.<\/p>\n

License issue and possible penalties<\/h2>\n

Investigators said Port\u2019s license was downgraded in 2024.<\/p>\n

They said it happened after his medical certification expired.<\/p>\n

If convicted, Port could face up to 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n
