Fargo, Cass County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A judge set $5 million cash-only bail for a 21-year-old Fargo man accused of killing 25-year-old Isadora Wengel.<\/p>\n

Charges filed<\/h2>\n

Joshua Alexander Hite<\/strong> appeared in court on Friday for his initial appearance.<\/p>\n

He was arrested on Feb. 10, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Hite faces charges of murder and other counts.<\/p>\n

Those include tampering with physical evidence.<\/p>\n

He is also charged with giving false information to law enforcement.<\/p>\n

Why prosecutors asked for high bail<\/h2>\n

Prosecutor Derek Steiner<\/strong><\/a> asked for the high bail amount.<\/p>\n

He cited the seriousness of the allegations.<\/p>\n

He also raised concerns about flight risk.<\/p>\n

Steiner told the court the alleged actions after the death were alarming.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said investigators recovered a saw blade during the case.<\/p>\n

They said it contained DNA and other evidence linked to Wengel.<\/p>\n

Authorities allege Wengel was dismembered.<\/p>\n

They say her remains were disposed of in unknown locations.<\/p>\n

Claims of deception after the death<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors also described alleged efforts to mislead investigators.<\/p>\n

They said Hite lied to officers during the investigation.<\/p>\n

They also said he used Wengel\u2019s phone after her death.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said messages went to Wengel\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

They said the messages suggested she was still alive.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said digital forensics found searches about using aliases.<\/p>\n

They said that added to flight risk concerns.<\/p>\n

Steiner also said Hite carried a firearm to a meeting with investigators.<\/p>\n

Judge sets cash-only bail<\/h2>\n

Judge Constance Cleveland<\/strong> granted the state\u2019s request.<\/p>\n

She set bail at $5 million cash-only.<\/p>\n

The defense did not object, according to reports.<\/p>\n

The judge said the bail amount can be reviewed later.<\/p>\n

Next court date<\/h2>\n

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 11 at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n

Search continues for evidence<\/h2>\n

Wengel was last seen at a Walmart in Fargo on Jan. 3.<\/p>\n

Her family reported her missing on Jan. 7.<\/p>\n

Authorities say her body has not been recovered.<\/p>\n

Fargo police continue to ask for help locating a black storage tote.<\/p>\n
