Baudette, Minnesota<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) Allen Lee Moorhead, 56, of Baudette, is charged with felony theft of a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n

The charge follows an investigation by the Lake of the Woods County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What investigators say happened<\/h2>\n

Court papers say a 2006 blue Honda Civic was taken on October 22, 2025.<\/p>\n

The car was parked on the 400 block of Main Avenue South in Baudette.<\/p>\n

The owner said the ignition was faulty, so the key was left inside.<\/p>\n

The owner reported the car missing around 7:00 a.m., the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Evidence cited in the complaint<\/h2>\n

Deputies found shoes and a baseball cap near the home\u2019s steps, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

The homeowner said the items were not theirs.<\/p>\n

A potted plant near the door was also knocked over.<\/p>\n

The Honda Civic was found about two blocks away, abandoned on 5th Street Southwest.<\/p>\n

Investigators reported the driver\u2019s window was shattered.<\/p>\n

They also reported a vodka bottle on the floor.<\/p>\n

Court papers say surveillance video from Baudette\u2019s municipal bar, The Muni<\/a>, showed Moorhead wearing a similar cap.<\/p>\n

Interview and response<\/h2>\n

Investigators interviewed Moorhead at his apartment, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

He reportedly said he was at the bar the night before.<\/p>\n

He also said he was very intoxicated.<\/p>\n

The complaint says he admitted the shoes and cap were his.<\/p>\n

When asked about taking the car, he said he did not remember.<\/p>\n

What happens next<\/h2>\n

Moorhead was charged by summons in Lake of the Woods County District Court<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint was filed February 6, 2026.<\/p>\n

A court appearance is expected in Baudette.<\/p>\n

Minnesota law lists vehicle theft as taking or driving without consent.<\/p>\n

That language appears in Minn. Stat. \u00a7 609.52<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Records requests can be made through the sheriff\u2019s office records unit<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Moorhead is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
