The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation posted the notice on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.<\/p>\n

The agency did not give a reopening date.<\/p>\n

Assault reported at the prison<\/h2>\n

The cancellation followed an inmate-on-inmate assault reported Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

Public information officer Kayli Richards said the department is investigating.<\/p>\n

No injuries, charges, or names were released in the initial update.<\/p>\n

Officials also did not say if the incident affected other operations.<\/p>\n

How prison visitation normally works<\/h2>\n

The DOCR says all visitors must apply and be approved before any visit.<\/p>\n

Visitors must also be placed on a resident\u2019s visitation list.<\/p>\n

The department says men sentenced to the state are first received at NDSP in Bismarck.<\/p>\n

New arrivals go through about four weeks of orientation.<\/p>\n

The department offers an online visitor application at\u00a0forms.nd.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It also provides a printable application on its visitation page.<\/p>\n

The agency says processing can take up to 15 business days.<\/p>\n

Photo ID is required for people entering a facility.<\/p>\n

The department also offers video visits for approved visitors.<\/p>\n

Video visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours ahead.<\/p>\n

Video visit details are available through Securus at\u00a0securustech.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n
