Clearwater County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) A Clearbrook man faces a gross misdemeanor charge after a snowmobile incident near Leonard.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the case involves an alleged refusal to give a court-ordered blood or urine sample.<\/p>\n

Lucas Todd Johnson<\/strong>, 35, of Clearbrook, is charged with second-degree refusal to submit to a chemical test.<\/p>\n

The charge is listed as Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a>, subdivision 2(2).<\/p>\n

What the police say happened<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, a deputy was sent to Leonard on Sunday, February 1, 2026.<\/p>\n

The call came in at about 8:25 p.m.<\/p>\n

A witness reported a snowmobiler stumbling near his machine in a field.<\/p>\n

The witness said the rider fell off the snowmobile.<\/p>\n

The rider then struggled to get back on.<\/p>\n

The witness said the rider drove away in an unsteady way.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the deputy followed tracks that crossed the road back and forth.<\/p>\n

Police later found the rider on 199th Avenue, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

The snowmobile had tipped over, and the rider was pinned underneath it.<\/p>\n

The driver was identified as Lucas Todd Johnson, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The deputy reported Johnson was unsteady when he stood up.<\/p>\n

The deputy also reported a strong smell of alcohol.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Johnson had bloodshot, watery eyes.<\/p>\n

While at the scene, the complaint says Johnson called his wife.<\/p>\n

During that call, he said, \u201cHey uh, well I have cops, and uh yep I\u2019m screwed.\u201d<\/p>\n

A field sobriety test was done, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Johnson was then taken into custody.<\/p>\n

Test warrant and refusal<\/h2>\n

The complaint says police took Johnson to the Sanford Bagley Medical Center<\/a> emergency room.<\/p>\n

A judge signed a search warrant for a blood or urine sample, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Police say Johnson refused to provide a sample.<\/p>\n

That refusal led to the current gross misdemeanor charge.<\/p>\n

Court details<\/h2>\n

Bail was set at $3,000 with conditions, or $12,000 without conditions.<\/p>\n

The order was signed by Judge Eric Schieferdecker.<\/p>\n

Court records also show a prior DWI conviction from February 2019.<\/p>\n

Records say Johnson may be screened for a DWI court program.<\/p>\n
