A Bagley woman faces a gross misdemeanor counterfeiting charge in Becker County.<\/p>\n

Shauna Rae Lafriniere<\/strong>, 37, is accused of using a fake $100 bill in Detroit Lakes.<\/p>\n

Court records say the purchase happened at a Holiday gas station.<\/p>\n

The incident is listed at about 12:37 a.m. on October 3, 2025.<\/p>\n

What police allege<\/h2>\n

The complaint says a man and a woman entered the store together.<\/p>\n

The woman tried to pay for items with a $100 bill.<\/p>\n

An employee ran the bill through a security safe.<\/p>\n

The safe rejected the bill several times, police said.<\/p>\n

The woman said the bill had \u201cgone through the wash,\u201d records state.<\/p>\n

The employee accepted the bill anyway, according to the report.<\/p>\n

Later, the bill was taken to a bank for review.<\/p>\n

Bank staff said the note was not real U.S. currency.<\/p>\n

The words \u201cFor Motion Picture Use Only\u201d appeared on both sides.<\/p>\n

Police said the wording was clear and easy to read.<\/p>\n

How the police identified the suspect<\/h2>\n

Police reviewed store surveillance video from the overnight sale.<\/p>\n

They compared the images to existing law enforcement records.<\/p>\n

Police then identified Lafriniere as the suspect, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Charge and possible penalty<\/h2>\n

Lafriniere is charged with counterfeiting of currency, uttering, or possessing.<\/p>\n

The charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.632, subdivision 3.<\/p>\n
