Mower County (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> A passenger died after a deer crash on Interstate 90 in Windom Township.<\/p>\n

The crash led to a rear-end collision, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.<\/p>\n

What happened<\/h2>\n

The Minnesota State Patrol<\/a> reports the crash happened at 8:54 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026.<\/p>\n

The location was westbound I-90, just west of milepost 182, in Windom Township.<\/p>\n

Troopers say a 2025 Subaru Outback was traveling west when it struck a deer.<\/p>\n

The Subaru stayed in the traffic lane after the impact.<\/p>\n

A 2010 Nissan Pathfinder was also westbound, according to the report.<\/p>\n

The Nissan then collided with the Subaru that was stopped in the lane.<\/p>\n

Two vehicles were involved, troopers reported.<\/p>\n

People involved<\/h2>\n

Kent Joel Shultz, 61, of Osage, Iowa, was a passenger in the Subaru.<\/p>\n

He died at the scene, according to the State Patrol.<\/p>\n

The Subaru driver was Sarah Jean Shultz, 60, also from Osage.<\/p>\n

She had injuries that were not life-threatening.<\/p>\n

She was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin<\/a> for care.<\/p>\n

The Nissan driver was Amanda Rebecca Dunlap, 36, of Austin.<\/p>\n

She was not injured, troopers reported.<\/p>\n

Road conditions and response<\/h2>\n

The State Patrol listed the road condition as dry.<\/p>\n

Airbags deployed in both vehicles, according to the report.<\/p>\n

Seat belts were reported in use.<\/p>\n

Alcohol was not suspected for either driver.<\/p>\n

Mower County<\/a> also helped at the scene.<\/p>\n

The Austin Police Department<\/a>, Mayo ambulance, and the Rose Creek Volunteer Fire Department<\/a> also responded.<\/p>\n

The incident is listed as a fatal crash under case number 26100370.<\/p>\n

The case was handled by State Patrol District 2100 in Rochester.<\/p>\n
