Martin County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Joseph Daniel Harberts<\/strong>, 30, of Trimont, Minnesota, is charged with a felony count.<\/p>\n

The charge is listed as Terroristic Threats\u2014Reckless Disregard Risk under Minn. Stat. \u00a7 609.713<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What authorities allege<\/h2>\n

According to the criminal complaint, deputies served an Extreme Risk Protection Order on January 23, 2026.<\/p>\n

Deputies also served a search warrant at Harbert\u2019s home in Trimont.<\/p>\n

Authorities say they removed four firearms during the search.<\/p>\n

Two seized guns allegedly matched photos sent with death threats, court papers state.<\/p>\n

The complaint describes the threatened person as \u201cVictim 1,\u201d a woman.<\/p>\n

Report of a trip to Sioux Falls<\/h2>\n

Later that night, family members contacted law enforcement, according to the filing.<\/p>\n

They reported Harberts was suicidal and out of control.<\/p>\n

They also said he blamed others for his problems.<\/p>\n

Investigators say Harberts left the home and drove toward Sioux Falls, South Dakota.<\/p>\n

Family members reported he planned to buy a new firearm, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

They believed he intended to return to Trimont and kill Victim 1.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement tracked his location using cell phone data, court records state.<\/p>\n

The data showed him traveling near Worthington, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Arrest and court status<\/h2>\n

Authorities later located Harberts at a gas station in South Dakota, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

He was taken to a behavioral health facility after police found him.<\/p>\n

Court papers say he was uncooperative there.<\/p>\n

He was later transferred back to Minnesota, according to the filing.<\/p>\n

Before police located him, Harberts allegedly sent a group text message.<\/p>\n

The complaint says he wrote he would not return home for \u201cforty-five years\u201d after the planned act.<\/p>\n

Records also note prior restraining order petitions involving Harberts.<\/p>\n

The filing states he was found incompetent in a separate criminal case.<\/p>\n

Harberts is being held under an Order of Detention.<\/p>\n
