Wright County (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A 20-year-old Monticello woman is charged. The case follows an overdose at the Wright County Jail.<\/p>\n

Kara Nicole Babcock is charged with a felony. The charge is fifth-degree drug possession under Minnesota Statute 152.025, subdivision 2(a)(1).<\/p>\n

The complaint lists possession of Schedule I\u2013IV drugs, or residue and paraphernalia.<\/p>\n

Court papers say Babcock overdosed inside the jail on January 22, 2026.<\/p>\n

What happened<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, Babcock became unresponsive in her housing unit.<\/p>\n

Staff gave Narcan, and she regained consciousness, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Babcock blamed her cellmate, Catelynn Ann Reed.<\/p>\n

A third inmate, Savannah Tallulah Boyd, was also housed nearby.<\/p>\n

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office<\/a> handled the investigation, court papers say.<\/p>\n

Search finds hidden drugs<\/h2>\n

Investigators say deputies searched two cells after the overdose.<\/p>\n

They reported finding white powder in several hiding spots.<\/p>\n

The complaint describes powder hidden inside a Bible.<\/p>\n

It also describes powder inside shampoo bottles and deodorant sticks.<\/p>\n

Deputies also reported folded paper packets with residue.<\/p>\n

Investigators believe inmates mixed the powder with drink mixes.<\/p>\n

The complaint calls the mixes fentanyl cocktails.<\/p>\n

It says hot chocolate mix and red Kool-Aid powder were in the cells.<\/p>\n

Some powder was described as mixed with both products.<\/p>\n

One recovered sample weighed about one gram, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Tests and charges<\/h2>\n

The complaint says jail staff collected voluntary urine samples.<\/p>\n

It says all three women tested positive for fentanyl and other drugs.<\/p>\n

Investigators also found a handwritten note requesting controlled substances.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the note was linked to Reed by handwriting.<\/p>\n

Hospital staff later spoke with Babcock, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

She said she took the powder and felt hot right away.<\/p>\n

She told staff she recognized the feeling from past fentanyl use.<\/p>\n

What’s next<\/h2>\n

Judge Kari Willis set bail at $5,000 with conditions.<\/p>\n

An alternative bail of $15,000 without conditions was also set.<\/p>\n
