Fargo, Cass County (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) A 29-year-old Fargo man pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court.
\nHe admitted to an armed carjacking and a two-week vehicle theft spree.<\/p>\n

Plea entered in federal court<\/h2>\n

Nathaniel Thomas Smith<\/strong> pleaded guilty on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, in U.S. District Court.
\nHe pleaded guilty to robbery and eight counts tied to stolen vehicles.
\nProsecutors said the vehicles were moved across state lines.<\/p>\n

Smith apologized in court.
\nHe said he has faced hard times for years.
\nHe said he wishes he could take it back.<\/p>\n

Armed carjacking of a work crew<\/h2>\n

The most serious count comes from a Sept. 8, 2025, incident in Fargo.
\nCourt records say Smith showed a firearm during the carjacking.
\nThe victims were employees of Snow & Lawn Dynamics.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said Smith took a vehicle and a trailer.
\nThey said the business losses topped $20,000.
\nIn court, both sides said the gun was shown.
\nThey also said it was not pointed at anyone.<\/p>\n

Smith faces up to 20 years in prison on that count.<\/p>\n

Eight vehicles moved across state lines<\/h2>\n

The plea agreement lists eight other stolen vehicles.
\nProsecutors said Smith moved them between North Dakota and Minnesota.
\nAll vehicles were recovered.
\nProsecutors said they were damaged.<\/p>\n
