Moorhead, Clay County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A jury trial is set this fall for a Moorhead man. Prosecutors say he stabbed his mother to death.<\/p>\n

James Kollie Jr., 28, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder and second-degree murder. The case involves the death of his mother, 56-year-old Receia Kollie.<\/p>\n

Court filings say Receia Kollie was found dead on Dec. 1, 2022, inside her south Moorhead home. Investigators reported no sign of forced entry.<\/p>\n

Trial date and upgraded charges<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors upgraded the case to first-degree premeditated murder in August 2025. Earlier filings listed second-degree murder.<\/p>\n

A three-week jury trial is scheduled to start Sept. 28 at 8:30 a.m., court records say. A roll call and settlement conference is set for Sept. 24.<\/p>\n

Kollie\u2019s bail is now set at $4 million without conditions. It is $2 million with conditions.<\/p>\n

Those conditions include GPS monitoring and no alcohol or drug use. They also include random testing and no contact with witnesses.<\/p>\n

What investigators say happened<\/h2>\n

Moorhead Police were called to the home after a family member dialed 911. The caller said they found Receia Kollie deceased inside the house.<\/p>\n

Court documents say investigators found a receipt from M&H in Moorhead dated Nov. 30. Investigators then reviewed store video.<\/p>\n

The video shows Kollie buying a face mask and gloves, according to filings. Police also reviewed phone records tied to the case.<\/p>\n

Records show calls made with *67 before the killing, documents say. That feature can hide the caller\u2019s number on many phones.<\/p>\n

Earlier arrest and later transfer<\/h2>\n

Court documents say Kollie was arrested four days before the death. The arrest involved a domestic assault case tied to his mother.<\/p>\n

Filings say a witness recorded part of that earlier incident. The witness later played the video for police.<\/p>\n

Receia Kollie told police she was locked in a bathroom, documents say. She also reported threats and said she felt afraid.<\/p>\n

Kollie was released from the Clay County jail on Nov. 29, 2022. Records say bond conditions barred contact with his mother.<\/p>\n

After the death, Kollie was arrested in Wahpeton the next day, according to filings. He told investigators he hitchhiked there after release.<\/p>\n

He fought extradition in Richland County Jail for more than a month. He was transferred to Clay County in January 2023.<\/p>\n

His first bail was $3 million without conditions, court records say. It was $1.5 million with conditions.<\/p>\n
