Paul Joseph Baumler, 62, of Casselton, North Dakota, is charged with felony theft-by-check.<\/p>\n

The charge cites Minn. Stat. 609.52<\/a>, subd. 2(a)(3)(i).<\/p>\n

ATV sale tied to closed account<\/h2>\n

A criminal complaint says a Walker dealer reported a bounced check on September 15, 2025.<\/p>\n

The report came from Loney Sales & Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Baumler bought a $5,400 ATV on September 5, 2025.<\/p>\n

The check was returned by First National Bank of Walker, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

The account was closed, according to investigators.<\/p>\n

The dealer later contacted Baumler, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

He allegedly apologized and blamed the wrong account.<\/p>\n

No payment was later received, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Investigators then found the same ATV listed on Facebook Marketplace<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The listing price was $5,600, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Second ATV case and recovery<\/h2>\n

The complaint also describes a June 2025 case in Walker.<\/p>\n

That report involved Lakes Area Powersports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Investigators say a $3,513 check was returned for non-sufficient funds.<\/p>\n

A second check was later returned, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Investigators say that account was also closed.<\/p>\n

Authorities later recovered that ATV in a storage unit in Fergus Falls.<\/p>\n

Sporting goods purchase<\/h2>\n

A third report was filed on October 30, 2025, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

It came from Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitters<\/a> in Walker.<\/p>\n

Investigators say store images show Baumler using a bad check.<\/p>\n

The items included a Vortex range finder and Merrell waterproof boots.<\/p>\n

The total was $555.45, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Investigators say the check was drawn on a closed account.<\/p>\n

The ID numbers used in the sale matched a North Dakota address, officials say.<\/p>\n

Warrant and court status<\/h2>\n

Court records show a judge signed the complaint on January 23, 2026.<\/p>\n

A warrant has been issued for Baumler\u2019s arrest, according to court filings.<\/p>\n

Records also show an active felony warrant in Douglas County for similar claims.<\/p>\n

The complaint lists an alleged offense date of June 4, 2025.<\/p>\n
