El Paso, Texas<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says a detainee died Jan. 14 in El Paso.<\/p>\n

What happened<\/h2>\n

The agency identified him as Victor Manuel Diaz, 36, from Nicaragua.<\/p>\n

ICE said Diaz was held at Camp East Montana, a detention site near Fort Bliss.<\/p>\n

ICE said staff found Diaz unconscious in his room.<\/p>\n

Contract security called on-site medical staff right away.<\/p>\n

Medical staff started life-saving care, ICE said.<\/p>\n

El Paso emergency crews arrived at 3:45 p.m. Mountain time.<\/p>\n

Diaz was pronounced dead at 4:09 p.m., ICE said.<\/p>\n

ICE said the death is a suspected suicide.<\/p>\n

The official cause is still under review.<\/p>\n

Custody timeline<\/h2>\n

ICE said officers took Diaz into custody on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n

ICE said officers met Diaz in Minneapolis, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

ICE said he lacked legal permission to stay in the United States.<\/p>\n

He was arrested on an immigration violation, ICE said.<\/p>\n

ICE records say Diaz first entered the United States on March 26, 2024.<\/p>\n

Border Patrol agents met him at the U.S.-Mexico border, ICE said.<\/p>\n

ICE said he got a notice to appear in immigration court.<\/p>\n

ICE said he was later released on parole.<\/p>\n

An immigration judge ordered Diaz removed in absentia on Aug. 26, 2025.<\/p>\n

In absentia means the court acted without him present.<\/p>\n

ICE said it processed Diaz for removal on Jan. 12.<\/p>\n

ICE said he stayed in custody while waiting for deportation.<\/p>\n

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.<\/p>\n

ICE has not shared a timeline for results.<\/p>\n
