World’s oldest person dies at 118 – Legacy.com

Lucile Randon, also known as Sister André, was the world’s oldest person and the fourth-oldest authenticated person in history.

Amazing longevity

Born just four years after the turn of the 20th century, Randon worked as a governess and teacher as a young woman. She converted from her Protestant upbringing to Catholicism as a teen, and she joined the Daughters of Charity as a nun in 1944. She took the name Sister André as a tribute to her brother. She worked as a teacher and missionary, returning at the age of 75. Randon became the oldest living person in April 2022 after the death of Kane Tanaka (1903–2022). At the time of Tanaka’s death, Randon would have turned 119 on February 11, and she said she had a glass of wine and some chocolate every day.
