Fort Totten, Benson County (trfnews.i234.me) – A 31-year-old woman, Tierra Lynn Scott, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison after driving drunk and killing a man in Fort Totten, North Dakota, in August 2024, with three children inside her vehicle at the time of the crash.
According to federal authorities, Scott will serve 96 months (8 years) for Involuntary Manslaughter, followed by 24 months each (6 total) on three counts of Child Neglect, to be served consecutively.
The incident occurred on August 17, 2024, when law enforcement responded to a home in Fort Totten and discovered a man had been run over and killed by a vehicle driven by Scott. Investigators determined she had no driver’s license, was intoxicated, and was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Officials also confirmed that three children were in the vehicle during the fatal crash.
“In August 2024, a man lost his life due to the negligence of Tierra Scott,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr.
U.S. Acting Attorney Jennifer Puhl noted in a press release that there has been a rise in alcohol-related driving deaths on the Spirit Lake Reservation, adding, “I hope this sentence serves as a reminder of the severe legal consequences for individuals who choose to drive under the influence and will deter that behavior.”
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).
