Barnes County (trfnews.i234.me) — A large emergency response unfolded late Thursday night after multiple semi-trucks caught fire near a fertilizer plant in Wimbledon, North Dakota.

At approximately 10:10 p.m., an emergency call went out requesting mutual aid from the Courtney Fire Department. The situation was reported along Highway 9, mile marker 37, near the Wimbledon fertilizer facility, which sits northeast of Jamestown in northern Barnes County.

The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office confirmed multiple semis were fully involved in flames, although early reports lacked specific details about injuries or the cause of the fire.

Emergency units that responded included:

  • Wimbledon Fire Department

  • Courtney Fire Department

  • Valley City Fire Department

  • Barnes County Sheriff’s Department

  • Jamestown Ambulance

  • Hazmat Team

  • North Dakota State Patrol

  • Daisy Fire Department

First responders worked into the night to control the blazes, given the added concerns of hazardous materials associated with the fertilizer plant.

Authorities emphasized that updates would be provided as more information became available, including the potential involvement of hazardous chemicals and the extent of property damage.

This is a developing story. Stay with TRF News for updates as they become available.

I’m Chris Harper reporting for TRF News.

Fertilizer plants often contain chemicals like ammonium nitrate, which can severely intensify fires and even cause explosions under the right conditions (EPA Fertilizer Plant Fire Risk).
