William “Bill” Cummings, 81, of East Grand Forks, MN passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 at his home with his family present.
Bill Cummings was born November 23, 1942 in Fargo, ND the son of A. Byard and Margaret (Swanson) Cummings. He graduated from Enderlin High School and worked at the Flatt and Heuer Farms. Bill entered the US Navy and served at Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA. After discharge, he studied at NDSU in Fargo and worked at St. Lukes Hospital in Fargo. Bill married Marilyn Erickson in Moorhead, MN on June 10, 1966. In 1967, he entered the Registered Nurse Program at St. Luke’s Hospital, graduating in 1969. The couple worked in Fargo, Moorhead, and Detroit Lakes. In 1973, they moved to East Grand Forks where Bill worked as an instructor at the Area Vocational Technical College (AVTI). Bill taught Nursing Assistant, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician and CPR Instruction throughout Northwestern Minnesota. In 2002, he became disabled and retired.
Throughout his lifetime, Bill pursued hunting and fishing (preferring to call it Food Gathering), drag racing, and time spent at the lake.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn of East Grand Forks; son, Joel (Kristin) Cummings of Pelican Rapids, MN; daughter, Michelle (Scott) Holweger of Chesapeake, VA; granddaughter, Kalli (Strait) Idso; grandsons, Jacob Cummings and Kasey Holweger; great-granddaughter, Violet Idso; and brother, Jeff (Marsha) Cummings of Wahpeton, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter, Karli Jo Holweger.
Memorials may be directed to the East Grand Forks Senior Center, the East Grand Forks Food Bank, or Hospice of The Red River Valley.
