Wild Reportedly Interested In Acquiring Two Flyers – Wilderness Walk

That’s Wild

Trades are already happening around the NHL. While we are so accustomed to nothing happening until closer to the deadline, some teams are making moves very early, just a month or so into the season. And that means rumors are just a little bit more concrete and things could actually happen with our Minnesota Wild.

As the Wild are now sitting pretty near the top of the league and are being led by two superstars in Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy, they might look to really add mid-season and push to contend for the Western Conference title. And that means acquiring some players, and potentially more specific, acquiring young forwards.

According to Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco, two players the Wild are interested in acquiring are Philadelphia Flyers wingers Joel Farabee and Bobby Brink.

Both wingers are sitting on the team’s third line currently but only due to having players like Travis Konecny, Matvei Michkov, and Owen Tippett ahead of them in the depth chart. Both Farabee and Brink are around the same age and have years of team control ahead of them. Farabee is locked up to a contract that carries a $5-million AAV through the 2027-28 season and Brink is under a $1.5-million AAV through the 2025-26 season but remains a restricted free agent for three years after that.

They are kind of the same player — dynamic offensively but if they’re not scoring, they do not provide a whole lot else. But, it wouldn’t be absolutely terrible for the Wild to bring more offense into this forward lineup and they could realistically sit next to Joel Eriksson Ek and Boldy when everyone is healthy.

Now, what would it take? The Flyers are rebuilding. They are probably looking at picks and prospects and notably, center prospects. So, would it take someone like Riley Heidt or a Hunter Haight to get this deal done? Possibly. Would it be worth it to acquire more NHL talent? Again, possibly.

It sure is going to be an interesting year full of trade rumors if the Wild continue being this good.
