Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) – Health experts are sounding the alarm as West Nile virus cases have been detected in Minnesota nearly a month earlier than usual this year.

According to Alex Carlson with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District, the virus is being transmitted primarily by the Culex tarsalis mosquito species, which has thrived due to recent rain and prolonged humid conditions.

“This year has been one of the worst for mosquitoes, and we’re seeing West Nile virus cases earlier than we typically expect,” Carlson said.

Officials recommend eliminating stagnant water on properties as one of the most effective ways to reduce mosquito populations and prevent further spread of the virus.
