FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – In a tragic turn of events, Taquoya Nike Saldana of West Fargo pleaded guilty on Monday to amended charges stemming from a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 31-year-old Marine veteran last year.
Crash Details
On April 12, 2023, Saldana was initially charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving following the collision that resulted in the death of Thomas Fradet. Fradet, riding his motorcycle west on Main Avenue, was struck by Saldana’s SUV as she was eastbound on the same road, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Felony Charges
After a thorough investigation, prosecutors announced felony charges of manslaughter and negligent homicide against Saldana. However, during the court proceedings on Monday, prosecutors dropped the manslaughter charge. The second count of negligent homicide was amended to reckless endangerment with extreme indifference, a class C felony, to which Saldana pleaded guilty.
Legal Proceedings
Despite her guilty plea, Saldana is currently free on bond awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for a later date. Prosecutors requested a delay in sentencing to finalize details concerning restitution and victim impact statements.
