According to court documents, Kik reported 12 files shared by 22-year-old Michael Wolcott between August and September 2024. Those files were flagged for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators say the content depicted young girls, some as young as seven, in sexual acts or poses.
A search warrant for Wolcott’s Kik account uncovered the same files, as well as selfie-style images tying the account to him. Authorities also recovered messages where Wolcott reportedly discussed a sexual interest in minors.
On September 4, 2025, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Wolcott’s West Fargo residence. According to the complaint, he admitted to using Kik and Telegram to view and share child sexual abuse material. He reportedly told investigators he would sometimes stop using the apps because he knew it was wrong, only to return due to what he described as “morbid curiosity.”
Wolcott is now charged with five counts of promoting a sexual performance by a minor and five counts of possession of prohibited materials. He was arraigned on September 8, 2025, in Cass County District Court.
If convicted, he faces significant prison time and fines under North Dakota law. The case remains under investigation.
