Wells County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A call of a suspicious vehicle in a ditch has led to multiple charges against a Wells County man.
According to court documents, deputies responded shortly after midnight on September 11 to a vehicle in a ditch along County Road 5. They found Casey Durick asleep in the backseat of a running car with a bottle of vodka in the cupholder.
When awakened, Durick reportedly stumbled out of the vehicle and appeared heavily intoxicated. Deputies say he refused commands and resisted attempts to detain him. He was eventually handcuffed after repeated warnings.
Authorities reported that Durick smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes. During transport, he allegedly shoved a deputy, kicked the patrol vehicle divider, and made repeated threats, including a statement that the deputy would die once he was released. At one point, deputies say he spat through the divider, striking an officer.
A search of Durick’s vehicle uncovered a vaping device with a THC cartridge. Once at the Heart of America Correctional Facility, he reportedly refused a chemical breath test.
Durick now faces several charges, including terrorizing, contact by bodily fluids, actual physical control while intoxicated, refusal of chemical testing, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He pleaded not guilty on September 11 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 8.
Authorities continue to stress the dangers of impaired driving and violent resistance during arrests. For more on North Dakota DUI laws, visit the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
