Washington County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A 23-year-old man is facing felony charges after allegedly threatening a rideshare driver with a knife in Woodbury, Minnesota. Prosecutors say the incident led to the theft of a vehicle and a high-speed chase into Wisconsin.
According to a criminal complaint, Ebrima Kanteh ordered a ride on August 28 from an Anytime Fitness in Woodbury. The trip ended near 2150 Eagle Creek Lane, where he allegedly pulled a knife and held it near the driver’s neck. Investigators say he also grabbed the victim’s phone during the confrontation.
The driver was able to escape and ran to a nearby gas station, where a bystander called 911. Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office quickly spotted the stolen Chevrolet Equinox speeding away on Woodbury Drive before entering I-94 eastbound toward Wisconsin.
Authorities reported the SUV was traveling over 100 miles per hour. St. Croix County deputies joined the pursuit and used a PIT maneuver near mile marker 16 to stop the vehicle. Kanteh, the only person inside, was arrested and booked into the St. Croix County Jail.
During a search, officers found a 13-inch “Elit Edge Big Boy Stiletto” dagger between the driver’s seat and the console. Prosecutors have charged Kanteh with three felonies: first-degree carjacking, first-degree aggravated robbery, and fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
The case remains under investigation. More information about criminal charges in Minnesota can be found at the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
