Wanda Louise (Cariveau) Sandbeck, age 86, a loving mother, grandmother and friend, went home to our Heavenly Father on March 20, 2025, in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, surrounded by her family.
Wanda was born January 23, 1939, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Bakken) Cariveau in East Grand Forks. Wanda attended East Grand Forks Sacred Heart schools and was a proud graduate of the class of 1957. After graduation Wanda worked at Enright’s Café where she met her husband, Kenneth Sandbeck. On May 10, 1958, they were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Church in East Grand Forks. They were blessed with six children, Mary, Patricia, Debra, Tami, James and Gayle.
Wanda was a stay-at-home mom for many years until Kenneth’s passing in 1989. She worked in the kitchen at the Westward Ho Motel along beside her loving mother. Wanda began working as a custodian at Sacred Heart Schools where she was employed for over 30 years. She cherished her time at Sacred Heart where she made many friends and was known as “Grandma Wanda”.
Wanda’s dedication to her Catholic faith was a very important part of her life. She will be remembered for her kindness, loving generosity and the need to help others. She was so proud of her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spoiled each one of them. Wanda had a great big heart, smile and a love for laughter.
We will forever be thankful that we had this wonderful, giving and loving woman in our lives. Mom taught us that there is nothing in this world like a mother’s love and the love of God. We hope that we will make you proud mom and you will forever be in our hearts.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley for their kindness and support.
Wanda is survived by her children: Mary (David) Anderson, Patricia (Ronald) Novacek, Debbie (John) Brodeur, Tami Baumgartner, James (Kristi) Sandbeck and Gayle (Chris) Moe; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Carter.
Wanda is also survived by her brothers, Gary (Sheryl) Cariveau, Daniel Cariveau, and Steven (Sue) Cariveau; sisters-in-law, Gail Cariveau and Jollen Cariveau; and brother-in-law, Arnie Iverson.
