Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Walker woman is facing gross misdemeanor DWI charges after nearly flipping her vehicle and being caught with a blood alcohol concentration of .28 in Bemidji.
Bemidji Police were alerted to a reckless driver near Lakeview Liquors on Paul Bunyan Drive. The driver, later identified as Sonia Star Lightfeather (DOB: 12/01/1991), was reported speeding and nearly rolled her vehicle. A witness followed her as she struck a curb, looped through downtown, and eventually stopped at a red light downtown.
When officers made contact, Lightfeather showed signs of severe impairment — slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, slow and rigid movements — and admitted to drinking earlier. She failed field sobriety tests and blew .283 on a preliminary test, later confirmed at .28 at the jail.
This isn’t her first DWI arrest. Her record includes prior gross misdemeanor convictions for 3rd Degree DWI and Criminal Vehicular Operation.
She now faces up to 1 year in jail and/or a $3,000 fine for this 2nd Degree DWI.
