WAHPETON, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — Chad Olson, 53, of Wahpeton, has been sentenced to five years in prison for the tragic hit-and-run death of 20-year-old Bailey Bernstein. Olson pleaded guilty to charges of criminal vehicular homicide and duty in accident involving death. The judge handed down a 10-year sentence on each count, to be served concurrently, with five years of probation following his prison term.
The fatal incident occurred last October when Olson, driving under the influence, struck Bernstein while she was walking with her mother. In court, Olson expressed his remorse, apologizing for his actions and acknowledging he cannot undo the tragedy.
A scholarship fund has been created in Bailey Bernstein’s honor, with donations being accepted at Bell Bank in Wahpeton.
