Wadena Co. Woman Charged After Assault on Officers
Wadena County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A Wadena woman is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly spitting on law enforcement and hospital staff. Court documents show Breanna Lea Cotton of Wadena, Minnesota, has been charged with felony fourth-degree assault of a peace officer.
According to the records, the incident happened on September 21. Cotton was taken to a hospital in Medina during a DWI investigation. While at the hospital, she allegedly spat, hitting a police officer, a sheriff’s deputy, and a hospital staff member. Officials said the acts led to the felony-level charge.
Under Minnesota law, fourth-degree assault against a peace officer or medical worker is treated as a serious offense. Convictions can carry prison time, fines, and lasting consequences. Cotton is now scheduled to appear in Wadena County court to face the charge.
Authorities stress that staff and officers must be protected while performing their duties. Minnesota statutes outline the penalties for assaulting peace officers, medical workers, and other protected staff.
The case remains under review by prosecutors. All charges are allegations at this stage, and Cotton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
