Thief River Falls – Wade Johnson, 58, of Thief River Falls, died on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Wade Lee Johnson was born on October 25, 1962 in Thief River Falls, the son of Richard and Esther (Foss) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls. He attended Washington Elementary, Franklin Middle School and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1981.
On July 7, 1984 Wade was united in marriage to his High School “sweetheart,” Tammy Martha Thrane, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. To that marriage, they added a family: Corey Michael Johnson in 1986 and Codey Lee Johnson in 1989. The family made their home in Thief River Falls. Wade and Tammy transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church for worship to be with their family and children who were attending Sunday School there and had been confirmed there.
Wade worked for Cenex in his earlier years and over 25 years worked his way from being a loader to a manager for Pepsi. In the summer of 2005 Wade went to work for Viking Coca-Cola in Fergus Falls, until March of 2013 when he returned to Thief River Falls and went to work at Dean Foods.
Wade loved everything outdoors – hunting, fishing, going to the cabin, and being with his boys and grandchildren. Snowmobiling, riding dirt bike, and 4 wheeling were great times for him, especially when his family and friends were involved. Wade was a “family man” first and loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He was very outgoing, talkative, and was somebody who knew anybody and everybody. On May 28, 2014 Wade was in a 4-wheeler accident near his hunting shack near Fourtown, which unfortunately left him as a quadriplegic. Wade never let his disability get in the way of enjoying life.
Survivors include his loving wife, Tammy of Thief River Falls; sons, Corey (Michelle) Johnson of Red Lake Falls and Codey Johnson of Thief River Falls; 4 grandchildren, Brennen “Punky, his best friend”, Paige, Zane and Aleigha; mother, Esther Johnson of Thief River Falls; sisters, Vicki Johnson of Grand Forks, ND and Sherri (Del) Christianson of Thief River Falls; sister- and brother-in-law, Steve and Judy Lappegaard of Thief River Falls, brother-in-law, Michael Senger of Mentor; nieces and nephew, Emma Christianson, Jennifer Senger of Fargo, ND, Kalie (Landon) Adamson of Minneapolis, and Jackie (Eric) Pagel of Minneapolis, Jeffrey Thrane of Virginia; and many other relatives and friends.
