Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Dennis Lee Busse, 57, of Bagley, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree assault. The incident took place on the morning of April 10 at the Star of the Lakes Inn in Detroit Lakes, prompting police response to a reported threat of violence.
According to court records, officers arrived to find a man who had been assaulted by Busse. The victim reported hearing Busse arguing and yelled out his window for him to quiet down. This led to Busse approaching the man’s door and expressing his displeasure.
Busse then demanded a fight, and when the man tried to walk away, Busse struck him in the face, causing a bloody nose. Witnesses at the front desk confirmed hearing Busse threaten to kill the man multiple times. The victim was found with dried blood on his face and nose.
Busse admitted to hitting the man unprovoked and was subsequently arrested. He had prior convictions for felony fifth-degree assault in 2022 and felony fourth-degree assault in 2021.
However, on April 26, the state dismissed the charge, citing doubts about their ability to meet the burden of proof at trial.
