    Grand Forks enjoys a lower crest since tributary runoff from Minnesota rivers, especially the Red Lake River, was relatively low and their crests arrived early. Also when the thaw arrived, it was gradual, not sudden as it was in 1979. Maybe when this is over this may be called a "textbook flood" – one that conformed to the best expectations of the NWS without unwanted surprises. Thanks.
