Juvenile Injured In Benson County Highway 19 Crash
MADDOCK, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — A juvenile driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening northeast of Maddock. The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports the collision happened around 5:07 p.m. on October 19 on Highway 19 near mile marker 123.
According to investigators, a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban was turning west onto the highway from a residential driveway on the south side of the road. The driver reportedly failed to yield to an oncoming 2006 Peterbilt truck with a flatbed trailer that was traveling eastbound. The truck struck the Suburban in a T-bone-style collision.
The impact sent the Suburban into the south ditch, while the Peterbilt came to rest in the north ditch. The juvenile driver of the Suburban suffered serious injuries and was transported to Sanford Bismarck Medical Center for treatment. Authorities said the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The 23-year-old male driver of the Peterbilt, from Belvidere, South Dakota, was not injured. According to the report, he was not wearing a seatbelt. Road and weather conditions were described as clear and good at the time of the crash.
Agencies responding to the scene included the Maddock Fire & Rescue, Maddock Ambulance Service, Harvey Ambulance Service, and the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
