UPDATE: Wolverton: Man Charged in New Year’s Shooting

Wolverton, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A man is charged in a fatal shooting.

Investigators say the shooting happened south of Wolverton on New Year’s Day.

Myron Johanson is charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The charges stem from the death of 22-year-old Jorden Boehm. Court documents say Boehm was shot in the neck inside a residence near Highway 75.

What investigators say happened

A probable cause statement describes the response.

Deputies and agents were sent on January 1 to 1772 Highway 75 near Wolverton. They went there after a report of a man shot in the neck.

Investigators wrote that several people were outside the home when they arrived. They entered and met Myron Johanson. The statement says Johanson directed them to another room.

Inside, they found Jorden Boehm lying on the floor. He was in a pool of blood, the statement says. Investigators reported an apparent gunshot wound on the left side of his neck.

The statement also describes a party scene. It says alcoholic drinks were scattered throughout the house. Witnesses told investigators that about 10 guests were at the home.

What witnesses reported

Witnesses said the group was getting along earlier in the night. But multiple people said Johanson handled a handgun often. They said he carried it in a holster.

Several witnesses said Johanson pointed the gun at other guests. One witness said another guest pushed the gun away from his face. Another witness said Johanson also pointed the gun at himself.

One witness said Johanson removed the magazine at one point. The witness said Johanson then aimed the gun at his own head. The witness said Johanson asked, “Do you trust me?”

Witnesses said Johanson later approached Jorden Boehm. They said Johanson put the gun under Boehm’s chin. They said he again asked, “Do you trust me?”

Witnesses told investigators the gun fired moments later. People then saw Boehm bleeding from his neck, the statement says. One witness said Johanson yelled for someone to call 911.

After the shooting

Investigators wrote that Johanson went to a bedroom with the handgun. The statement says he was given a Miranda warning. He told investigators he cleared the gun and placed it on a bed.

The statement says Johanson later led deputies to the handgun. Investigators collected it as evidence. Johanson was booked into jail, according to the document.

Johanson has made his first court appearance. The case remains under review in Wilkin County District Court. Charges are allegations until proven in court.
