BELCOURT, N.D. (KMOT/KFYR) – UPDATE (6:35 p.m. on 12/29/2024): The legal counsel for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa released new information on an officer-involved shooting in Belcourt.
According to Alysia LaCounte, general counsel for the tribe, as the investigation unfolded they learned that there was no exchange of gunfire, and gunfire only came from law enforcement.
According to LaCounte, the man who was killed was doing U-turns on the highway, attempting to get officers to pursue him. LaCounte said three officers responded and one officer drew their weapon and asked the man to exit the vehicle.
It’s unclear what led to the officer firing their weapon or how many times they fired it.
