RAMSEY COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — Authorities have released additional details about a two-vehicle crash north of Devils Lake that left a local woman seriously injured on Wednesday night.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:49 p.m. on October 1 along ND Highway 20 near mile marker 108, approximately four miles north of Devils Lake. Conditions were clear and dry at the time.
Investigators say a 2021 Toyota Highlander, driven by Luella Rance, 76, of Devils Lake, was traveling southbound when it struck the left rear of a 2005 Case IH farm tractor driven by Joel Stevenson, 70, of Bottineau. Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway.
Rance was seriously injured in the collision and transported by Lake Region Ambulance to CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Devils Lake. She was wearing a seat belt, and airbags deployed in her vehicle.
Stevenson was not injured but was taken to the same hospital for evaluation. He was cited for improper lamps on an implement of husbandry and a moving violation, according to the Highway Patrol.
The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Region Ambulance Service assisted at the scene. Traffic was temporarily disrupted while crews cleared the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Authorities remind drivers to be extra cautious during harvest season, especially when traveling near farm equipment at night.
