UPDATE: Child on Bicycle Struck by Semi – New Details Emerge in Tragic Accident

CROOKSTON, MN (trfnews.i234.me) The Minnesota State Patrol has released a few more details regarding a semi hitting a child on a bicycle ini downtown Crookston late Monday afternoon. The semi driver has been identified at 73- year old Duane Otto Schouveiller of Mahnomen. The child on the bicycle has only been identified as a 10-year old girl from Crookston, who suffered life threatening injuries.
The Crookston Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol are conducting a joint investigation of the accident.
the minnesota state patrol has identified the driver in a terrible crash in downtown crookston late monday afternoon a uh 10 year old girl on a bicycle was hit by a semi the patrol says the driver of the semi was 73 year old dwayne otto schoviller of manomen the juvenile female on a bicycle has been identified only as a 10 year old female from crookston she suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a riverview hospital in crookston and then later transferred via life flight to sanford in fargo that was from the state patrol whose only description of the crash is that the mac semi was westbound on highway 2 attempting to turn north onto north broadway in crookston when it struck a bicyclist on the sidewalk unquote that’s the only description of the crash say yeah a witness tells inews there were two kids here at the corner on uh bicycles and apparently uh one of them was hit by the semi um tracks and witnesses at the scene said it appeared the child and bicycle were drugged down the street for about a block before the semi stopped the patrol says no alcohol involved in this crash and again no charges the crookston police department now has these details and a news release quote the preliminary investigation indicates the victim was on the corner here when she was struck by the rear wheels of the semi trailer as the semi was making a right hand turn uh north down this street it’s all part of u.s highway 2. the victim and her bicycle became entangled in the semi-trailer wheels the semi came to a stop approximately a block and a half north from the police department yet again this imp information is preliminary further details will be released later the minnesota state patrol and crookston police department are jointly investigating the incident i’m Neil Berg reporting for trfnews.i234.me

  1. Semis have to make wide right turns and sometimes run over curbs. Truck drivers can't see in their blind spots. This goes for people driving cars that don't move when a truck is trying to turn. I'm sure the guy driving the truck isn't doing well mentally. I've almost hit kids on bikes that came out of nowhere or ran out of garages at my apartment. Kids are quick. Maybe the guy didn't see the child or maybe the child thought it was safe to go. I hope the child survives. As far as the driver is concerned his driving days are cut short. Mine would be over no matter my age.
