Juvenile Killed In Benson County Highway 19 Crash

BENSON COUNTY, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me— Authorities say a juvenile has died following a T-bone collision northeast of Maddock, North Dakota, on Sunday evening. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m. on October 19 along Highway 19 near mile marker 123.

Investigators report that a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a juvenile was northbound from a residential driveway on the south side of Highway 19, attempting to turn west. At that time, a 2006 Peterbilt truck with a flatbed trailer, driven by 23-year-old Tyler Rausch of Belvidere, South Dakota, was traveling eastbound.

According to the Highway Patrol, the Suburban failed to yield and was struck by the Peterbilt. The Suburban came to rest in the south ditch, while the Peterbilt stopped in the north ditch. The juvenile, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was transported to Sanford Bismarck Medical Center, where they later died. Rausch, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the collision.

Road and weather conditions were reported to be clear and dry at the time of the crash. Agencies responding to the scene included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Maddock Fire & Rescue, Maddock Ambulance Service, and the Harvey Ambulance Service.

The incident remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Authorities have not released the identity of the juvenile pending family notification.
