Ulen (trfnews.i234.me) — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal house fire near Ulen.

Officials say Daryn Waller, 57, died in the fire on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026.

The call came in mid-morning

Emergency crews were dispatched at about 10:14 a.m. Friday.

The call reported a structure fire in rural Clay County.

The address was 21148 160th Avenue North, near Ulen.

The deputy attempted to enter

A Clay County deputy arrived and went inside to look for Waller.

The deputy had to get out as the smoke conditions worsened.

Responders were told Waller could not exit the home.

Firefighters found the victim inside

Firefighters with the Ulen Fire Department later searched the home.

They located Waller in a bedroom, officials said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said he died from injuries caused by the fire.

Investigation continues

The cause of the fire has not been released.

The case remains under investigation.

Reports say the Minnesota State Fire Marshal is involved.

Local law enforcement is also assisting with the review.
