NEWBURG TOWNSHIP, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — On Thursday, May 22, 2025, at approximately 8:02 a.m., a three-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 44 near Milepost 33 in Newburg Township, Fillmore County. A 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck, driven by 39-year-old Jeffrey Scott Slowiak of Granton, WI, was traveling eastbound when it collided with two westbound vehicles: a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado operated by 77-year-old John Deloy Petersen and a 2009 Lincoln MKX driven by 31-year-old Emilia Johnson Ramirez, both of Mabel, MN.
Petersen sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to La Crosse Hospital for treatment. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Slowiak suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Ramirez was uninjured in the incident.
Emergency response teams from the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, Mabel Fire Department, and Mabel EMS assisted at the scene. Road conditions were reported as dry, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
