A Thief River Falls woman has been charged in Pennington County District Court after she allegedly choked her teenage daughter and punched her.
Susie Edana Clark, 38, has been charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.
She was arrested.
The report doesn’t indicate whether the girl sought medical care.
The charges stemmed from a report of an active domestic assault Thursday, Sept. 1 at about 5:43 p.m. in the 100 block of Fourth St. W.
Upon arriving, the sergeant could hear screaming coming from the home and could see two females fighting with one another through a screen door. Clark was allegedly on top of her daughter on the floor. She was pulling her daughter’s hair. The sergeant grabbed Clark and pulled her off of the girl.
Clark allegedly smelled strongly like alcohol and was unsteady on her feet. She said she was sick of dealing with her teenage daughter, but she didn’t wish to elaborate further.
The girl, who was crying, allegedly said her mom had been drinking heavily throughout the day. The two of them and Clark’s other daughters had gone to the house of a friend who had recently given birth. The girl said her mom had consumed a bottle of alcohol there within the past two to three hours. Clark wanted one of her daughters to give her a ride to get them some food from a restaurant in Thief River Falls.
The girl said she and her sisters didn’t want to give their mom a ride because their mom was drunk. Clark allegedly became angry, grabbed the girl by the hair, and started wrestling her on the floor.
Later, the girl provided a formal statement to the police. Things were going well at the friend’s home until, just before they left, someone made a comment about how short the girl’s shorts were. The girl allegedly said her mom gave her a mean look and smacked the girl’s right arm.
The girl then left the friend’s home and waited in the car for Clark since she knew Clark was upset. Upon arriving home, Clark allegedly began yelling at the girl and told her to leave. The girl said she didn’t leave because her mom had reported her as a runaway in the past when similar situations had occurred.
A physical fight then ensued. Clark allegedly grabbed the girl by the hair, punched the right side of the girl’s face, hit her on the left eyebrow area, and tried to choke her.
The girl told police she had a hard time breathing.
