Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Thief River Falls woman is facing a second-degree DWI charge after police stopped her vehicle early on November 23.

According to the Thief River Falls Police Department, an officer conducted the traffic stop at about 1:32 a.m. in the 400 block of First Street East. The driver, identified as Renae Martinez, 37, of Thief River Falls, was taken into custody at the scene.

The criminal complaint states that the officer approached the vehicle and immediately noticed the odor of alcohol coming from inside. The officer also reported several indicators of impairment during the conversation with Martinez.

Police say Martinez was asked to complete field sobriety tests. According to the complaint, she was unable to pass the tests. A preliminary breath test conducted at the scene recorded a 0.16 Blood Alcohol Content reading.

Martinez was then transported to the Pennington County Jail for further testing. She provided two breath samples using a DataMaster DMT machine, both of which reportedly resulted in 0.16 BAC. Information about Minnesota DWI penalties is available through the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

The complaint notes that Martinez had an implied consent license revocation just five days before this latest arrest. Because of that prior revocation and the 0.16 test result, the case was charged as second-degree DWI – two or more aggravating factors.

Martinez was booked into the Pennington County Jail. Court proceedings will continue in Pennington County District Court. Case information can be accessed through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

More details may be released as the case moves forward.
