Felony theft

On June 8, 2021, the sheriff’s office received a report of an internal theft at Petro Pumper. Amy Jo Norberg, 56, Lake Bronson, has been charged with felony theft. The complaint was signed Tuesday, March 15. According to the complaint, the then-owner allegedly learned that Norberg was stealing money from the cash register by making fictitious returns of cigarettes and LP gas. Norberg admitted stealing money that weekend, saying she was struggling financially and would pay the owner back. She initially denied stealing money other times at the business. However, when pressed, she eventually admitted stealing money multiple times during three other shifts on different days. The complaint indicated “Norberg acknowledged she has remorse and knew it was wrong.” On Jan. 24, the sheriff’s office received a surveillance video dated June 6 from Petro Pumper. Norberg allegedly stole a total of $1,172.16 on four shifts from May 16 to June 6.

Theft

On April 1 at 2:09 p.m., police received a report of numerous thefts at Walmart. Ian Michael Lane, 23, Thief River Falls, has been charged with theft. He was arrested. According to the complaint, Lane allegedly stole a total of $523.98 of merchandise in five transactions between Feb. 13 and March 26. He accomplished the thefts by not scanning items in the self-checkout lane at Walmart. In one instance, he went to customer service, saying he left three “bath sheets” there six days earlier after purchasing them. However, it was determined that he left Walmart with four bath sheets despite only scanning three. The complaint indicated that Lane was readily identifiable due to a tattoo on his right hand. The complaint indicated that he currently faces charges in four 2021 cases involving such offenses as fifth-degree controlled substance crime (two offenses), fourth-degree damage to property, aiding and abetting a first-degree burglary, disorderly conduct, and fifth-degree assault. The complaint noted he is subject to conditions of release on those files. The complaint further indicated that Lane’s criminal history includes, but isn’t necessarily limited to, a 2019 incident involving offenses of fleeing a peace officer and third-degree refusal to submit to a chemical test.
