On Sept. 30 at 10:50 a.m., police received a report of an accident at Auto Value. At the time of the accident, Donald L. Braunschweig of Thief River Falls was planning to park a 2007 GMC Sierra when his foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas pedal. The pickup truck then crashed into the front of the building. No injuries were reported, and no customers were in the store at the time. Manager Cory Bugge said the accident damaged a front wall of the business. Broken glass was strewn all the way to the front counter, and merchandise was scattered. An insurance adjuster hadn’t yet reviewed the damage as of Friday morning.
Escape from custody
On Sept. 25 at about 5:40 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of an escape from custody. Arturo Alcozer III, 34, Red Lake Falls, has been charged with escape from custody. A warrant has been issued. Alcozer allegedly failed to return to jail from a court-ordered furlough. He was supposed to return at 5 p.m. that day, according to the complaint. Before being released on the furlough, Alcozer was incarcerated at the Pennington County Jail for a Red Lake County gross misdemeanor driving while impaired case. That day, he appeared in court via Zoom and was granted the furlough until 5 p.m. Alcozer was then released from jail at about 1:34 p.m. Sept. 25. He hadn’t returned to jail as of 2:48 a.m. Sept. 28, according to the complaint.
HE WAS CAPTURED 10-6-2020
On Sept. 25 at 8:46 p.m., police received a domestic assault report in the 400 blocks of First St. W. Soudsakhone Chitmany, 37, Thief River Falls, has been cited for domestic assault. She was arrested. Chitmany allegedly assaulted a man. He didn’t seek medical attention.
On Sept. 26 at 1:25 a.m., police performed a traffic stop near Eighth Street and Dewey Avenue. Spencer Lee Simmons, 29, Thief River Falls, has been cited for DWI. He was arrested and later released when he was sober.
Accident and careless driving
On Sept. 30 at 1:53 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of an accident at Center Street East and 270th Avenue Northeast. At the time of the accident, Robert Alan Thunder of Thief River Falls drove a 2005 Chevy Impala at a high-speed rate. According to the report, he could not avoid crashing into a 2018 Chevy Traverse driven by Royal A. Rivard of Argyle. The report doesn’t list the direction of travel for either motorist. No injuries were reported. Thunder has been cited for careless driving.
On Sept. 30 at 4:57 p.m., police received a theft report at 208 Sherwood Ave. N. Someone had stolen a Menards credit voucher.
Hit and run accident
On Oct. 1 at 6:31 p.m., police received a report of a hit and ran accident at the intersection of Nelson Drive and Highway 59. At the time of the accident, a Thief River Falls man drove a 2011 Ford Escape on Nelson Drive and was stopped at a stop sign. A black Camaro then rear-ended the sport utility vehicle. The unknown motorist left the scene before officers arrived. No injuries were reported.
