Felony first-degree domestic assault by strangulation

On Sept. 15 at 9:50 a.m., police received a report of a domestic assault in the 600 block of Crocker Ave. S. Drew William Holloway, 43, Thief River Falls, has been charged with felony first-degree domestic assault by strangulation. He was arrested. Holloway allegedly assaulted a woman after she dropped their 3-month old child at the home. The woman said she refused to enter Holloway’s home and he removed the keys and cell phone from her vehicle. Holloway told her to text her mom, who reported the incident, that she would be a few minutes. She refused. While holding the couple’s infant child, Holloway allegedly grabbed the woman and pulled her to the front steps of his home. He then pushed her into the house. She attempted to leave, punching him in the face. He shoved her into a hallway and put his hand around her throat. She was able to break his grip, kicked him in the genitals, and attempted to leave through the back door. However, he prevented her from leaving, threw her back inside, and smashed her cell phone. Holloway soon allowed her to leave, but he allegedly told her not to press charges. The investigator observed slight red marks on the right side of the woman’s neck. One of her broken fingernails was observed on the living room floor of the home. The investigator also took a statement from the woman’s mom. While the investigator was taking that statement, the mom received a text message from Holloway in which he allegedly texted that the woman’s phone had dropped and finally stopped working. He also texted that he would pay for a new phone since “it happened here” and he apologized. Holloway allegedly told the investigator that he invited the woman inside for coffee and to talk. He said he didn’t want to pay for her vehicle and reached for her hand and her keys. She then punched him and kicked him in the genitals. Holloway said he pulled her into his house. When told that his recounting didn’t make sense, Holloway said the woman dropped the phone and later hit him with it. When asked where he had been hit, he changed the subject and he didn’t answer. Holloway later told the investigator that the phone was in a dresser inside his closet. The phone had been destroyed. The complaint indicated that Holloway had been previously convicted of domestic assault in July 2000.
